SGITM Linux? Environment 1.1

SGI Linux 1.1 is the second release of SGI's distribution of Linux.

This release has various enhancements over RedHat's stock 6.0 release
and
includes support for SGI hardware, specifically the SGI 1400L.

SGI Linux 1.1 Kernel Patch

As part of SGI's continuing commitment to the Open Source Community,
we are publishing all the improvements we have made to the kernel in
this
release. In addition to the kernel changes, we have added a number of
usermode programs and have fixed bugs in a number of existing programs.


This patch contains all the changes SGI has made for the 1.1 release
of the
SGI Linux Environment. This distribution is derived from RedHat Linux
6.0
but with the kernel being a 2.2.10 base. The changes to the kernel
include
both internally developed enhancements as well as community patches.
These have been integrated and the resulting system has been tested
extensively.

The kernel contains the following enhancements (vs. the 2.2.10 base
kernel):

     The Alan Cox (v12) patch
          Driver updates
          Hardware RAID support
          NFS fixes
     DEVFS (Extensible device file system)
     NFSv3 with NLMv4 (both client and server)
     Raw I/O (Stephen Tweedie's with enhancements)
     3.8G Memory Support (BIGMEM)
     Built-in Kernel Debugger (KDB)
     Kernel Crash Dump Support
     POSIX Asynchronous I/O
     Spinlock Metering
     Post/Wait Synchronization
     Fast gettimeofday(3) system call
     GDB Kernel Debugging
     New Drivers
          QLogic 1080/1280 SCSI
          QLogic 2100 Fibre Channel
          Alteon and SGI Gigabit Ethernet

If you would like to install an rpm, you will need to build an rpm using
the
kernel sources and a spec file. Please read the Frequently Asked
Questions
about how to build and install kernel rpms.

Distribution Enhancements

The following changes to the RedHat 6.0 base distribution were made:

     Xconfigurator 4.2.3 (adds support for SGI monitors)
     initscripts 3.16 (adds SGI logos)
     lilo 0.21 (fixes bug with large memory systems)
     mount 2.9o. (adds support for NFS V3)
     ncurses 4.2 (adds support for IRIX winterm)
     ncurses-devel 4.2 (adds support for IRIX winterm)

The following additions to the RedHat 6.0 distribution were made:

     kernprof 1.0 (kernel profiling tool to identify performance
     bottlenecks)
     ktrace 1.0 (kernel trace tool)
     lcrash 1.0 (post-mortem crash file analysis)
     libdba.so 1.0 (APIs to enhance database performance)
     lockstat 1.0 (spinlock metering analysis)
     sard 0.2 (disk activity statistics/analysis)
     sgi-logos 1.0 (SGI Logos)
     sgi-extra 1.0 (various SGI modifications)
     sgi-release 1.0 (SGI release identification)
